Background
We at Tummy Love Food Co. always try our best to keep all our customers happy. Therefore we developed our Lentil Bobotie in CanD’s Kitchen, suitable for our vegetarian customers and those with gluten-intolerance issues. We have come up with a winner of a dish. So much so, that our vegetarian customers have fooled their meat-loving friends and family with this dish. Not realising that there is not meat and loving it!
We boil brown lentils in our home-made vegetable stock. The lentils are combined with fried onions. The Lentil Bobotie contains no bread or wheat products. It is therefore perfect for those with gluten-related health issues. We pre-bake our dish with our unique egg custard. It is so easy to prepare: just thaw, heat in a preheated 180 degrees oven. Enjoy with your choice of condiments or sambals.
A brief history
The basic recipe was imported in the seventeenth-century form Indonesia. The Cape Malay community adapted it. The bobotie is flavoured with a mixture of turmeric, cumin, coriander, ginger, white pepper, salt, paprika, cloves, nutmeg, and Worcester Sauce. And, of course, that truly South African tradition of Chutney. To further enhance the flavour we add Flaked Almonds and Raisins to make it that perfect Bobotie bite!
Ingredients: Chicken Breast, Onions, Carrots, Celery, Garlic, Tomatoes, Breadcrumbs, Butter, Seed & Olive Oil, Cheddar Cheese & Seasoning.
